Montpellier plans for Leeds scheme

Montpellier Estates has submitted a planning application to develop the 10 acre City One site, to the south of Leeds city centre.
The Harrogate-based development and investment company plans for a 2m sq ft mixed-use scheme, which will include grade A office space, residential and retail units, restaurants, a hotel and 'large casino' - as defined in recent gambling legislation.
The site was originally shortlisted for the Leeds Arena project, but was later rejected by Leeds City Council - which appointed itself as the arena developer on council-owned land at Claypit Lane.
According to Montpellier, the development is in line with the council's regeneration plans, as it will connect Holbeck and Beeston to the city centre.
In 2006, outline planning permission for a mixed-use development on the site was granted. It included a conference centre, casino, hotel, and residential and commercial office accommodation.
